Pratt & Whitney Bringing Commercial Jet Engine Production Line to Florida
ThumbnailIn mid-November Pratt & Whitney announced plans to expand itsmanufacturing capabilities in West Palm Beach, Florida with a $63 million capital investment and the addition of some 230 aerospace engineers. The facility is ramping up to produce a new engine for the Airbus A320 commercial jetliner, as well as to assemble and test engines for F-35 military jets. In noting that the availability of skilled workers played an important role in the selection of Florida over Connecticut for the expansion, United Technology's Louis ChĂȘnevert said, "We never had issues finding great talent in the state of Florida." Pratt & Whitney has been a staple of Florida's aerospace industry since 1958. Enterprise Florida and the BDB of Palm Beach County were partners in facilitating this major project win. . more

ThumbnailOver the past decade Florida has leapt ahead of the competition to establish itself as the new location for life sciences innovation and industry growth. Mazor Robotics, a developer of surgical robots and related products, plans to locate its US headquarters in 15,000 sq. ft. of space in Florida Hospital's Health Village in Orlando - a new 172-acre mixed planned use community including bioscience and medical offices . more


ECI Pharmaceuticals Expands Florida Manufacturing and R&D Operations
ECI Pharmaceuticals, a specialty pharmaceutical manufacturer and manufacturer, recently announced an expansion of its manufacturing and R&D and analytical testing laboratories in Fort Lauderdale that will result in 20 new jobs and $1 million in capital investment. more


UF Research and Academic Center at Lake Nona Officially Opens
The University of Florida's Research and Academic Center at Lake Nona, a 106,000-sq. ft. facility, will house the College of Pharmacy, the College of Medicine, the Center for Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology, the Institute for Therapeutic Innovation, Institute on Aging and Clinical and Translational Science Building . more
