Enterprise Florida wins President's "E Star" Award for Export Service

Procurement Opportunities

On November 19, 2009, the Greater Miami Chamber will host liaisons from the U.S. Department of Commerce to the United Nations, the Inter-American Development Bank and The World Bank Group as part of the Chamber's Americas Linkage Conference.

Liaisons will discuss procurement processes and opportunities with major multilateral development organizations. Millions of dollars in procurement opportunities are available each year from these organizations to businesses regardless of their size. The half-day conference will include a session with the Export-Import Bank and the Small Business Administration who will discuss how to finance your exports.

After the conference, the Chamber will host the 3rd Annual International Business Leadership Awards Luncheon honoring outstanding international businesses and specially recognizing Dr. Tony Villamil, Dean School of Business, St. Thomas University. The ceremony will be emceed by Teresa Rodriguez, nationally renowed broadcast journalist from Univision. Cost to attend the conference starts at $60. All events will take place at Jungle Island (1111 Parrot Jungle Trail, Treetop Ballroom)

Enterprise Florida Announces Partner Trade Event Grants

Enterprise Florida is pleased to announce a new program to help its trade and economic development partners expand their international trade activities and provide new opportunities for Florida exporters to tap into foreign markets.

The Partner Trade Event Grants program will be implemented through Florida’s network of economic development partners and trade organizations. Through these grants, EFI will provide financial and technical support for partner-led export sales missions and in-bound buying missions. The program is designed to encourage regional trade development initiatives and support the expansion of Florida-produced exports to high-potential markets worldwide. The ultimate goal of the grants is to help generate export sales for Florida manufacturers and service providers.

The grant Guidelines and Application are both attached. The program runs from September 1, 2009 through August 31, 2010 or until all funds are expended. If you have any questions, please contact your local Enterprise Florida Trade Manager.

ITC Board approves Mission to Senegal and South Africa

At the March 13th, 2009 meeting, the Board of Directors voted to approve an ITC joint mission with the Miami-Dade Sister Cities program to Dakar, Senegal and Cape Town, South Africa from October 17th-25th, 2009. The Sister Cities affiliation agreements with these two African cities are progressing, and the Mayor of Senegal has already indicated an approval of this affiliation. The completion of these agreements will come as a direct result of the ITC 2007 trade mission to South Africa, and will mark the program's first ever affiliation with communities in Africa.

•July 7th-14th - West Africa Regional Conference in Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria hosted by the Foundation for Democracy in Africa and EFI.
•July 8th - City of Miami is hosting a construction expo at Jungle Island designed to connect developers with small businesses and the community.
•July 9th - UM’s Center for Hemispheric Policy will be giving a seminar on Mexico’s Security Challenges and Impact on the Economy
•July 19th–23rd - Inbound trade mission from Venezuela will take place at the Miami Free Zone hosted by the Florida Foreign Trade Association

Calendar of Activities for May 2009 "Jay Malina" ITC of Miami-Dade

In an effort to keep the business community in South Florida informed on trade related activities, the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium (ITC) of Miami-Dade County has compiled a list of trade related events for 2009.

The month of May has many excellent trade related events including an inbound buyer’s trade mission from Lagos, Nigeria May 10th-13th which has a business matchmaking component. The U.S. Commercial Service will be presenting a seminar on May 12th entitled Access to Export Capital in a Turbulent World.

On May 18th-19th, the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce will be taking a trade mission to Lima, Peru that includes country briefings, seminars and networking opportunities geared to small and medium sized businesses. The ITC-led mission to Japan & Taiwan leaves on May 24th, and CAMACOL will be hosting the 30th Hemispheric Congress of Latin Chambers of Commerce and Industry May 28th-30th.To find out more about these activities as well as a complete listing of all of the 2009 events, please link to our South Florida Activity Calendar located on the events page on our website.

Calendar of Activities for July 2009 "Jay Malina" ITC of Miami-Dade

In an effort to keep the business community in South Florida informed on trade related activities, the Jay Malina International Trade Consortium (ITC) of Miami-Dade County has compiled a list of trade related events for 2009.

The month of July features:
•July 7th and July 14th - Import/Export seminars hosted by the Florida Foreign Trade Association
•July 7th-14th - West Africa Regional Conference in Lagos and Abuja, Nigeria hosted by the Foundation for Democracy in Africa and EFI.
•July 8th - City of Miami is hosting a construction expo at Jungle Island designed to connect developers with small businesses and the community.
•July 9th - UM’s Center for Hemispheric Policy will be giving a seminar on Mexico’s Security Challenges and Impact on the Economy
•July 19th–23rd - Inbound trade mission from Venezuela will take place at the Miami Free Zone hosted by the Florida Foreign Trade Association
•July 31st - The registration deadline for Miami-Dade County’s Official Business Development Mission to Brazil is limited to 20 participants on a first come first serve basis. To register for the mission, please link to:

What Are They? Trade leads include foreign companies who are interested in making direct purchases from Florida companies, acting as a manufacturer's representative or agent/distributor, and joint ventures. In support of EFI's Africa Trade Expansion Program, we also provide leads from African companies looking to sell their products or services to Florida and the U.S.

Where Do They Come From? The majority of these leads are generated by our International Offices in 14 overseas markets.
How Can I Follow Up On These Leads? If you wish to follow up on any of these leads, you can contact the foreign company directly with the information provided on the detailed report. We ask that you also copy the International Office or Florida staff-person that submitted the lead. Their information is also included in the report. Please be sure to mention that you received this information from Enterprise Florida.

Florida distributors should be aware that they may be required to have the right to distribute products in a particular country before doing business there. Please contact the person who submitted the lead if you have any questions

Miami-Dade to Take a Trade Mission to Japan and Taiwan May 24th - June 4th, 2009
As part of the Asian Trade Initiatives that develops and expands trade and cultural linkages with Asia, the ITC Board of Directors voted to approve a trade mission to Japan and Taiwan. The mission will take place May 24th -June 4th, 2009.
