Continued Growth in Aviation & Aerospace in FloridaThumbnail
Few states can match the broad range of aviation and aerospace expertise available in Florida. That's why virtually every major industry contractor has significant operations in the Sunshine State. In fact, the number of aerospace companies grew by 4.1% and the number of aviation employees grew by 7.0% in Florida from 2010 to 2011. Today, Florida is the #2 state in aviation, aerospace and space establishments, with more than 2,000 companies and over 87,000 employees.

Among the assets attracting aviation & aerospace companies to Florida is the state's top-rated workforce, which includes tens of thousands of active duty military personnel and veterans, rocket scientists, and other highly qualified workers. Combined with a world-class infrastructure that includes 22 airports with runways of 10,000 ft (3,000 m) or more and three spaceports, Florida's advantages for the industry are hard to beat.

The diversity of this sector in the state is also exceptional, as some recent announcements of aviation & aerospace companies locating in Florida confirm. From unmanned aerial vehicles to new launch vehicles – Florida does it all!

Business Support & Information in Time of Disaster
One of Enterprise Florida's less known functions is to serve as a communication conduit for local economic development organizations that provide disaster-related information and support to businesses. EFI offers tools to conduct business damage assessment surveys and lists of state and federal resources to be distributed to businesses preparing for, responding to and recovering from a storm. EFI staff also supports the State Emergency Operations Center efforts with planning and communications services. More specifically, Enterprise Florida:
Coordinates pre- and post- event conference calls with local economic development organizations and business support partners to maximize input on damage assessment, need identification, and resource delivery.
Coordinates the distribution of the business damage assessment surveys to local economic development organizations, who will in turn distribute to businesses in the county.
Assists local economic development organizations with a pre-made template EDO CEMP with the necessary sample legislative letters, documents and checklists for an emergency plan to assist businesses.
Relays to ESF-18 any requests from the local economic development organizations for equipment or resources to assist businesses in affected counties.
Assists in staffing the ESF 18 (when EFI personnel are available).
