Pratt &
Whitney Bringing Commercial Jet Engine Production Line to Florida
In mid-November Pratt
& Whitney announced plans to expand itsmanufacturing capabilities in
West Palm Beach, Florida with a $63 million capital investment and the
addition of some 230 aerospace engineers. The facility is ramping up to
produce a new engine for the Airbus A320 commercial jetliner, as well as to
assemble and test engines for F-35 military jets. In noting that the
availability of skilled workers played an important role in the selection
of Florida over Connecticut for the expansion, United Technology's Louis
ChĂȘnevert said, "We never had issues finding great talent in the state
of Florida." Pratt & Whitney has been a staple of Florida's
aerospace industry since 1958. Enterprise Florida and the BDB of Palm Beach
County were partners in facilitating this major project win. . more
